Lately I tried to change or just « to improve » the way I eat. And this for many reasons. You’ve noticed how much I love sugar. I don’t want to be on a « diet » for the rest of my my life. I just want to stay balanced in my life, to feel good in my body and to be Healthy.
I think I can eat everything I want but in moderation. I don’t want to be frustrated. When I want to have a cupcake or a cookie or even french fries I do it. I just try to stay balanced and not to feel bad about it.
My first problem as always is my job. I don’t cook my meals 75% of the time and I often go to restaurants (which is great , don’t get me wrong, I love it !), but it makes things more difficult when you have to do the right choices. My other problem is the same every year, at some point I can’t stand the food that we have in the plane.
One more time don’t get me wrong I am really lucky to work in that airline. We don’t eat hot meals because we don’t have ovens in all our planes but we do have very decent cold meals, sandwiches and breakfasts. It is just that it is always the same and at some point, just the smell of those meals, snacks or breakfast gets me nauseous.
So lately, I bring my own food or buy my own food whenever I can find a supermarket near the hotel. I try to have a really good breakfast : granola/oatmeal/muesli with yogurt or milk and I buy fresh berries whenever I can, whole wheat bread with jam, fruits when they are available and then smoked salmon or eggs. It depends on the hotels but usually breakfasts are great. Then for the plane I usually buy cherry tomatoes, avocado or when I fly from Paris, melon or tomato salad with fresh herbs.
Then depending where I am at , I can buy soja/potatoes chips or whole grains healthy crackers. And for snacks and dessert I have some organic dark chocolate coated rice or corn cakes and bananas. I buy organic when I can. I also always carry in my bags some oatmeal or whole wheat cereals, organic dehydrated tomato soups and dehydrated miso soups and lots of teas and herbal teas.
This is mostly what I eat when I’m not home and I try to eat less meat as well … and I don’t go to restaurants as much as I used to, but when I go I always treat myself. Of course it’s more complicated , more expensive and my bag is way more heavy when I leave for a few days but I noticed that I really feel better since I’m doing it.
I also read more and more really interesting articles about food and nutrition and that’s how I this slushy is born. Even though you can avoid the ice and just go for a regular smoothie, cold is no good for your tummy but I love slushies ! This and my love for pomegranate and berries of course. So drink your Antioxidants as well !! And what about you ? What do you eat when you are travelling for work or not ?
